Representative Factor - 1:1000000
This means 1 cm on the map represents 1000000 cm on the actual ground

Area of forest on map =
4.6 \: {cm}^{2} <br />

1 \: {cm}^{2} on map represents
1000000 \times 1000000 \: {cm}^{2} on actual ground

Area of forest :

=1000000 \times 1000000 \times 4.6 \: {cm}^{2}

(1 m = 100 cm)
=10000 \times 10000 \times 4.6 \: {m}^{2}

(1 km = 1000m)
=10 \times 10 \times 4.6 \: {km}^{2}

=
460 \: {km}^{2}

muhannadsharji: Why is it 1000000×1000000 cm squared on the map?
iammrmitulp7n6ud: see 1 cm sq = 1 cm x 1 cm............. and 1 cm on map represents 1000000 cm on ground.............. so 1 cm x 1 cm will represent 1000000 cm x 1000000 cm on ground
muhannadsharji: But in order to convert from cm sq to m sq, shouldnt you multiply by o.ooo1
iammrmitulp7n6ud: yes i did 1000000 x.0.01 x 1000000 x 0.01.............which is same as 1000000 x 1000000 x 0.0001
