New Delhi 05th March:
A devastating fire broke out at New Delhi's most congested market area-Sadarbazar. Fifty shops were gutted by the fire. Property and goods worth about fifty lakhs was destroyed. Three people died and fifty are suffering from second degree burns.
The fire broke out late in the evening due to short circuit . Being a congested area the fire spread rapidly. Since many shops sell plastic and rubber products the fire was further kindled.
Twenty fire brigades rushed to the site but entering the area through its narrow lanes was extremely difficult.
Two fire brigade workers were seriously injured. As panic spread through out the area people ran helter skelter causing a stampede. The disaster management team had to be called. It took twelve hours to put the fire down.
The Tribune was the first Newspaper Media to reach the spot.
