A match box has x no. of matches.They are doubled and 8 are taken away.They are again doubled and 8 are taken away.This is done one more time and the box gets empty.How many matches in the box?

Let the number =x
they're double d and taken away 8 means
2×x-8
Than again double d and taken away 8 means 2x-8×(2-8)
result is 0
=2x-8(2-8)=0
=2x-16+64=0
=2x+48=0
=2x=0+48
=2x=48
=x=48/2
therefore x=24
