A mathematics club consisted of 40 members. 70% of the members were girls. After some members joined the club, 60% of the members are girls.
if the new members consist of 6 more boys than girls, how many members in total are boys.

According to answer key, the answer should be 20 boys, but I do not get how to solve that.

Answer:

total boys are 20

Step-by-step explanation:

Given,

let Girls=G boys=B

A mathematics club consisted of 40 members. 70% of the members were G's.

70%of 40=28 G's

40-28=12 B's

After some members joined the club, 60% of the members are G's.

let the new G's are 'x' and B's are 'y'

28+x =60%             ---------(1)

-------------------

12+y=40%              ----------(2)

by dividing 1 by 2 we get

28+x/12+y=60/40

28+x/12+y=3/2

56+2x=3y+36

3y-2x=20                ------------(3)

if the new members consist of 6 more B's than G's

y-x=6                      ------------(4)

by solving both (3) and (4) equations we get

y=8

number of B's =12+8=>20
