A mechanic was hired to build a metal fence around a piece of land
160m2 rectangular. The client asked that the length of the land be 4 meters more
than twice the width, to achieve proportion and cover the required area. Each
linear meter of fence material costs $ 12.50. If the customer gave $ 600.00 to the
mechanic to buy the material, was it enough to fence the entire land? If it
reached, how much did you have left over? If it did not reach, how much did you need?

  • Rectangle: Length-x; Width-Y
  • therefore, square width: 2y
  • perimeter: rectangle=square
  • 2(x+y)=4*2y
  • x=3y
  • Area of rectangle: x*y=3y*Y=3y^2
  • area of square: (2y)^2=4y^2
  • Given; 3y^2+100=4y^2
  • y=10
  • So, area of square=(2y)^2=(2*10)^2=400
