the answer will be 350
60+80=140
if he gets 140 marks then he will pass so passing marks is 140 out of x
140/x*100=40
x=350

Maximum number of Marks is 350 if Pa ssing marks arr 40% and  a students fail by 60 marks on getting 80 marks

Given:

  • Need to secure 40% marks to pa ss
  • Got 80 marks and failed by 60 Marks

To Find:

  • Maximum number of Marks

Solution:

Assume That Maximum Marks are M

Step 1:

Find 40% of Maximum Marks which are pa ssing marks

Pa ssing Marks = (40/100)M

Pa ssing Marks = 0.4M

Step 2:

Equate Pa ssing Marks with Marks obtained + marks by which failed

Pa ssing Marks = Marks obtained + marks by which failed

0.4M = 80 + 60

Step 3:

Solve for M

0.4M = 140

4M = 1400

M = 1400/4

M = 350

Hence, Maximum number of Marks is 350
