a merchant sells 40 m of cloth and earn a profit equal to the cost price of 6 m of cloth, find his profit percent?​

IF 40M CLOTH SOLD HE GAIN 6M CLOTH CP

LET GET=X RUPEES

6M CLOTH CP =X

40M CLOTH WILL BE=40/6=6.6

Gain percentage =6.6/x into 100=66

finally he got 66m gain

Solution:

The given question can be solved very easily as shown below.

Let the cost price of 1 m cloth be 'Rs. x'.

Let the selling price of 40 m cloth = SP

Then the cost price of 40 m cloth = Rs. 40x

Then the cost price of 6 m cloth = Rs. 6x = profit

⇒ Profit = SP of 40 m cloth - CP of 40 m cloth

⇒ 6x = SP - 40x ⇒ SP = 46x

Profit percentage = ( SP - CP )/ CP × 100 = ( 46x - 40x ) / 40x × 100= 6/40 × 100= 15%

Therefore the profit percentage is 15%.
