X is Calcium Carbonate or Calcium bicarbonate. Gas evolved is carbon dioxide.

Reaction is
CaCO3 + H2SO4 ------> CaSO4 + H2O + CO2

CO2 shows brisk effervescence.....

A: CaCO3 (Limestone)

Gas: CO2

Equation: CaCO3 + H2SO4 --->

CaSO4 +H2O +CO2
