The mass of silver in the metal disc = 810 gm

Given :

  • A metal disc consists of three parts silver and two parts copper (by mass).

  • The disc has a mass of 1350 gm

To find :

The mass of silver in the metal disc

Solution :

Step 1 of 3 :

Write down ratio of mass of silver and copper

The metal disc consists of three parts silver and two parts copper (by mass).

∴ The ratio of mass of silver and copper

= 3 : 2

Step 2 of 3 :

Form the equation to calculate mass of silver in the metal disc

The ratio of mass of silver and copper = 3 : 2

Let mass of silver and copper in the metal disc is 3x gm and 2x gm respectively

By the given condition

\displaystyle \sf 3x + 2x = 1350

Step 3 of 3 :

Calculate mass of silver in the metal disc

\displaystyle \sf 3x + 2x = 1350

\displaystyle \sf{ \implies }5x = 1350

\displaystyle \sf{ \implies }x =  \frac{1350}{5}

\displaystyle \sf{ \implies }x = 270

Mass of silver = 3x = (3 × 270) gm = 810 gm

Mass of copper = 2x = (2 × 270) gm = 540 gm

Hence mass of silver in the metal disc = 810 gm
