let number of small squares be x.
1cm=10mm
area of metal plate will be equal to area if x number of small squares.
420×140/7×7× x
x=1200

Given :

A metal plate measuring 42 cm by 14 cm is cut up into small squares of side length 7 mm.

To Find :

How many squares will be cut?

Solution:

Length of metal plate = 42 cm

Breadth of metal plate = 14 cm

Area of plate = Length \times Breadth = 42 \times 14 =588 cm^2

Length of small square = 7 mm = 0.7 cm

Area of small square = Side^2 = 0.7^2 = 0.49 cm^2

No. of squares =\frac{588}{0.49}=1200

Hence 1200 squares  will be cut
