Given,

A metal slab whose weight , F = 50 N has length l, = 50cm , breadth, b = 40cm and width, h = 10cm.

To find,

The pressure exerted by metal slab when it is kept on its different faces.

we know a cuboid has six faces.

two l × b , two b × h and two h × l.

case 1 : for faces of l and b.

area of face, A = l × b = 50 × 40 = 2000 × 10^-6 m² = 2 × 10¯³ m²

now pressure = force/area = 50/2 × 10¯³ = 25000 N

case 2 : for faces of b and h.

area of face, A = b × h = 40 × 10 = 400 × 10^-6 m² = 4 × 10¯⁴ m²

now pressure = force/area = 50/4 × 10¯⁴ = 125000 N

case 3 : for faces of h and l.

area of face, A = h × l = 10 × 50 = 500 × 10^-6 m² = 5 × 10¯⁴ m²

now pressure = force/area = 50/5 × 10¯⁴ = 100000 N
