Galvanizing is the process that prevents iron from rusting. A layer of zinc is deposited on the surface of iron. This zinc is more reactive than the iron so whenever the condition of rusting are fulfilled, a galvanic cell is established instead of rusting of iron. The layer of zinc is gradually eaten away but iron beneath it remains safe.
