least count = pitch measurement / total no
of division

therefore, LC = 0.5/ 100
= 0.005

hope this helps you:)

According to the question;

Pitch = 0.5 mm

No. of division on circular scale = 100

least count =?

least count = \frac{Pitch of the screw of the gauge}{No. of division on circular scale }

least count = \frac{0.5}{100} \\least count = 0.005 mm

A micrometre screw has a pitch of 0.5 mm, and the thimble has 100 equal divisions. The least count of the instrument is 0.005 mm.

D. 0.005

  • Micrometre screw gauge:- It is a tool for measuring the diameter of thin wires and the thickness of small glass or plastic sheets.
  • Least count:- The screw gauge's least count is the distance moved by the tip of the screw when it is turned through one division of the head scale.
