his gain percentage is 31.95%.
as he adds 20% water in milk to sell it.that means in one litre of milk he invest 14.4 rs and sells it at 19 rs.Thus gain % is(( 19-14.4)/14.4)*100

Answer:

The gain is 26.66%

Step-by-step explanation:

Given that milk was purchased at the rate of Rs 18 per liters.

Let the number of liters of milk purchased be x

Cost of x liters of milk, CP= Rs.18x

Step 1:

Given 25% water is mixed to the milk

Hence the quantity of milk after mixing water = x + 20% of x

\begin{array}{l}{=x+\frac{20}{100} x=x+\frac{x}{5}} \\ {=\frac{6 x}{5} \text { litres }}\end{array}

Step 2:

Selling price of milk = Rs.19 per litre

Hence SP of   6x/5  litres  of milk = Rs.19 x 6x/5  litres

=RS.114x/5 = RS.22.8 x.

Step 3:

Clearly SP > CP

Hence, profit = SP – CP =22.8x -18x

= 4.8 x

Step 4:

Using the formula

Profit%  = (Profit / CP) x 100

= ( 4.8 x) / (18x) x 100

=48x /180 x x 100

=26.66 %

Therefore, the profit% is 26.66%.
