Milk contains lactic acid. Milkman stores his milk in metal containers. As a result, the acid in the milk reacts with the metal container and corrodes it. So to stop this reaction, the milkman adds some baking soda(sodium bicarbonate) which is a base. As the baking soda is added, a neutralisation reaction begins and as a result the milk becomes neutral and does not react with the metal container.
