a mixture comprises water and liquids a and b. The volume of water is 1/3 of the total mixture and the volume of liquids a and b are in the ratio 5:3. To remove the water, the mixture is passed through a porous medium which completely absorbs the water and partially absorbs liquid a. Altogether this porous medium absorb

Hello dear,
The question is incomplete. But don't worry I've know this question from my previous studies.

● Answer- 120 ml

● Explanation-
We have a/b = 5/3
Suppose, a = 5x, b = 3x,
Also Water / a+b = (1/3)/(1-1/3)
Water = (5x+3x)×1/2 = 4x

Total mixture initially,
V1 = 5x+3x+4x = 12x

Later,
b = 3x
a/b = 7/9
a = 7/9 × 3x
a = 7/3 x

Total mixture finally,
V2 = 7x/3 + 3x
V2 = 16x/3 ...(1)

But its given,
V2 = V1-200
V2 = 12x-200 ...(2)

Equating (1) & (2),
16x/3 = 12x-200
20x/3 = 200
x = 30 ml

Water absorbed = 4x = 120 ml

Hope this is helpful...
