it, the ratio of alcohol and water becomes 3 : 4. Find the quantity of alcohol in the

Answer:

Let the amount of alcohol in the mixture be 4x.

Similarly let the amount of water be 3x.

Once 7 litres is added..

Amount of water becomes (3x+7)

Therefore :

4x : 3x+7 :: 3:4 [since 3:4 is the new ratio]

4x*4= 3(3x+7) [product of means= product of extremes]

16x= 9x+21

16x-9x=21

7x=21

Hence x=3 litres.

The amount of alcohol= 4x

Hence quantity of alcohol= 4*3

=12 litres
