A mixture contains milk and water in the ratio of 9:4. On adding 4litres of water, the ratio of milk to water becomes 3:2. Find the total quantity of the original mixture.

water='w' litres(l)

m/w=9/4

4m=9w    ==  4m-9w=0  _(1)

m/w+4=3/2  

2m=3w+12

2m-3w=12 _(2)

6m-9w=36 _(3)

2m=36         m=18l

substituting m's value in any equation we get w=8l

Therefore total quantity =26 litres
