Answer:30 litres

Step-by-step explanation:Let x litres of water should be added to solution.

In initial solution,

Quantity of solution=40 litres

Quantity of salt in solution=70% of 40 litres=28 litres

In new solution,

Quantity of solution=(40+x) litres

Quantity of salt in solution=40 %of (40+x) litres={(1600+40x)÷100} litres

Clearly, the quantity of salt in both solutions are same.

So, (1600+40x) ÷100=28

or, 1600+40x=2800

or, 40x=2800-1600

or, 40x=1200

or, x=1200÷40

or, x=30

Hence, the required quantity of water which should be added in solution is 30 litres.
