Answer:

Napoleon and the escaped English soldier

In the early 19th century Napoleon Bonaparte became the first emperor of France. He was at the height of power conquering European countries. During one the wars an English soldier was captured by the army of Napoleon. One day the English prisoner attempted to escape using a casket (barrel) to cross the English Channel. However, he was captured and brought before the Emperor Napoleon.

As a military leader and emperor Napoleon was known to put to death any prisoner who tried to escape. So everyone expected that the captured English prisoner would be executed that day. Napoleon asked the prisoner, "Why did you try to escape?' The English soldier replied, "Too see his old and sick mother." Hearing this reply, Napoleon immediately set him free.

Moral: Love for mother is universal.
