Given,

The total length of a pole = 34m

In the first minute. monkey climbs 6 m

In the second minute. monkey slips down 2m

To Find,

The time taken by him to reach the top of a pole =?

Solution,

In the first 1 minute, the monkey climbs = 6m

In next 1 minute, monkey climbs = - 2 m {as he slips down}

Total distance covered in 2 minutes = 6 - 2

Total distance covered in 2 minutes = 4m

Total distance covered in 1 minutes = 4 / 2

Total distance covered in 2 minutes =  2 m

Therefore, the monkey climbs 2 m in 1 minute. To reach the top of the pole he has to climb 34 m

Time taken to climb 2 m =  1 minute

Time taken to climb 1 m =  1 / 2 minute

Time taken to climb 34 m = 34 * (1/2)

Time taken to climb 34 m = 34 / 2

Time taken to climb 34 m =  17 minutes

Hence, the time taken by the monkey to reach the top of the pole is 17 minutes. Option(b) is the correct answer.
