A monochromatic ray of light strike the water (n=4/3) surface in a cylindrical vessel at angle of incidence is 53 Degree. Depth of water is 36cm.
After Striking the water surface
, how long will the light take to re-
ach the bottom of the vessel?

Explanation:

n= c/ v

4/3=3×10^8/v

v= 9×10^8/4

v=2.25×10^8

s=d/t

t= d/s

=36/2.25 10^8

=.16×10^-8sec

Answer:

2*10^-9 seconds.

Explanation:

After making the diagram we will get that the sini/sinr =μ where i is the angle of incidence, r is the angle of reflection. So, (4/5)/sinr = 4/3 which on solving we will get r=37⁰.

So, if we take the distance h from the top of the vessel to the bottom in the line of the action of ray making hypotenuse with 36cm. We will get that 36/h=cos37 or x will be 36/(4/5) which on solving we will get h = 45 cm or 4.5/10^-2 m.

So, now we know that the speed of the light in water will be 3*10^8/4/3 which will be 2.25*10^8 m/s. So, now the time required will be 4.5/10^-2/2.25*10^8 which on solving we will get 2*10^-9 seconds.
