A motorboat took 2 hours to make a Trip with a 5mph current. the return trip against the same current took 4 hours longer.find the speed. ​

DOWNSTREAM:

  let speed of boat=x

  distance of one side=d

  speed of current = 5mph

  then time=distance/speed

              2=d/(x+5)----- d= 2*(x+5)

UPSTREAM:

4 hours longer means extra 4 hours than before

           (2+4)=d/(x-5)-----d= 6*(x-5)

now equate distances

       2*(x+5)=6*(x-5)

       2x+10=6x-30

       4x=40

         x= 10mph
