Suppose the distance from point A to B is x km
Speed,S1 = 30 km/hour
Distance = x km
Time taken,T1 = x/30 hour
Speed,S2 = 20 km/hour
Distance = x km
Time taken,T2 = x/20 hour
and
Total Distance,S = x+ x = 2x km
Total Time = T1 + T2
=> Total Time = (x/30) + (x/20) hour
=> =
=> Average Speed = (2x)/{(x/30) + (x/20)}
=> Average Speed = (2x)/{(50x)/(30×20)}
=> Average Speed = (2×30×20)/(50)
=> Average Speed = 2×6×2 = 24
