(a) Isolation of alkali metals

  • Alkali metals can be extracted by a process called electrolysis.
  • In this process, instead of using the salts, the chlorides and oxides of the metals of interest are used.
  • When chlorides or oxides of these metals are treated with electric current for little period, metal is extracted.
