though a triangular glas prism
(a) state the colour at x and y
(b) why do the different component of white light bend through different angles with respect to the
incident beam of light?

A ) The seven colours of the spectrum form 7 bands with x as the topmost band and y as the lowest band . X= red ,Y=violet.

B) The prism acts as a refraction medium . The white light, the moment it strikes the inner wall of the prisim ,disperses into its constituting colours . Each band of colour has its own speed and density. Thus it changes its path or bends according to its speed and density, in respect to the incident ray.
