This is known as an ithsmus a strip of land with water on either side . Most famous is Panama which links North and south America, which has the Pacific ocean on one side and the Atlantic on the other . It's famous canal links both the oceans and used consistantly for shipping going from one to the other and recently widened to take much larger ships like the new container super carriers . Another one is the Sinai peninsula in Egypt with the Mediterranean on one side and the red sea on the other and linked by the Suez canal .
