because a needle lacks the surface area required for an object to float . Ship, on the other hand, has a large surface area & also has buoyant force by being hollow from inside

it is due to density. a ship has it's lower part free which contains nothing and due to low density it floats on water but needle has higher density. A ship's lower part is also sunk a bit
