 \bf{ \underline{Given: } }

A number consists of two digits whose sum is 6. If 18 is added to the number, its digits are reversed.

Answer:

  • 24

Solution:

Let the ones digit be x

Then, the tens will be (6 – x)

∴⠀⠀⠀⠀Number = 10 (6 – x)

⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀= 60 – 10x + x

⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ = 60 – 9x

Number obtained by reversing the digit

⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀= 10x + (6 – x)

⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀= 10x + 6 – x

⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀ = 9x + 6

According to the question,

⠀⠀⠀Number + 18 = Number obtained by reversing its digits

➟⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀= 60 – 9x + 18 = 9x + 6

Transposing variables on one side and constant terms on other sides, we get:

⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀– 9x – 9x = 6 – 60 – 18

➟⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀– 18x = – 72

➟⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀x = – 72/ – 18

➟⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀x = 4

The number is 60 – 9x = (60 – 9 × 4)

⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀= 60 – 36

⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀= 24

  • Hence, 24 is the required number
