A number exceeds another number by 23 and their sum is 231 .Find the two numbers

Let one number = x 
another number = x+23(Given)

Sum of the both numbers = 231
i.e. x+x+23= 231
So, 2x + 23= 231
Subtracting 4 both the sides, we get 
2x = 208
x = 208/2 = 104. 
So, one number is 104 and another number is 104+23
i.e. 104 and 127 (Answer)

as per the question we have two equations
x =y+23.......(1)
x +y=231......(2)
substitute (1) in (2)
y+23+y=231
2y+23=231
2y=231-23
2y=208
y=104....(3)
substitute (3) in (1)
x=104+23
x=127
therefore two numbers are 104 and 127
