A number is increased by 10%

=>10% of 100

=>10/100*100

=>10 

=> 100 + 10 = 110

so the resulting number is 110

given  resulting number is then decreased by 20%

=>20*110/100*

=>  22

=>110 - 22

=> 88

so the number became 88

intially it was 100

=>it is decreaed by =100-88

=>12

percentage decreaseded  =  decrease *original no. /100

=>12*100/100

=>12%
