let the number be x then given that x - 6/x = 5/2

solving for x we get x = 4 or x = -3/2

let the number be x.
so, it's reciprocal will be 1/x.
Now,
x = 6(1/x)+ 5/2

x = 6/x + 5/2

x = 12+5x/ 2x

2x² = 12+5x

2x²-5x-12=0

2x²-8x+3x-12=0

2x(x-4)+3(x-4)=0

(2x+3) (x-4) = 0

x=(-3/2) or x=4.
