Given : One Half of the seeds produce White flower. One third produce Yellow flowers and remaining Red flowers

To Find : Probabilities

Red Flower

not Yellow Flower

2 Seeds selected Both produce Yellow

2 Seeds selected Both produce Blue

2 Seeds selected produce one White and one Yellow flower

Solution:

Let say   Total Flowers are 6F

White  = (1/2)6F  = 3F

Yellow = (1/3)6F = 2F

Red = 6F - 3F - 2F  = F

Probability Red Flower = F/6F  = 1/6

Probability  not Yellow Flower  = (6F - 2F)/6F  = 4/6 = 2/3

Probability that 2 Seeds selected Both produce Yellow = (2F/6F) (2F/6F)

= (1/3)(1/3)

= 1/9

Probability that 2 Seeds selected Both produce Blue = (0/6F)(0/6F) = 0

( as no seed produce blue flower)

Probability that 2 Seeds selected produce White and Yellow flower

= (3F /6F )(2F/6F)  + (2F/6F)(3F /6F )

= 1/6 + 1/6

= 1/3
