a painter is applying force himself to raise him and the box with an acceleration of 5 m per second square by a massless rope and pulley arrangement as shown in the figure mass of the painter is hundred kg and that of box is 50 kg if g is equal to 10 m per second square then

Let say painter applied force F on the rope to himself

now since the string is connected to chair and painter both

SO total tension on the system will be double = 2T

so now we have

2F - (m + M ) g = (m + M) a

m = 50 kg

M = 100 kg

a = 5 m/s^2

now by above equation

2F - (100 + 50)*10 = (100 + 50)*5

2F = 1500 + 750 = 2250

F = 1125 N

so force applied by the painter on the rope will be 1125 N
