It is right to say that a painting is like a poem without words. This is also a famous expression given by Horace. A painting is like a poem without words. The poem is a creation and form an expression of an art in itself and it tends to express things metaphorically, with rhythm, with literary devices and usage of symbolism. Poem tends to express and reflect on the subject in beautiful words, personalised expression and is rather strong and deep expression made with short phrases and lesser words. Painting similarly tends to reflect on and express on a subject symbolically, metaphorically and via images instead of words and hence a poem without words.
