உழவர் அல்லது விவசாயி (farmer) என்பவர் நிலத்தில் உழுது விவசாயம் அல்லது வேளாண்மை செய்பவர்கள். பண்டைத் தமிழகத்தில் "உழவர்" என்ற சிறப்புப்பெயர் மிகவும் உயர்ந்தவர் பெறும் பட்டமாக மதிக்கப்பட்டது.[1] சுழன்றும் ஏர் பின்னது உலகு என உழவுத்தொழில் பாராட்டப்பட்டது. ஆயினும் நிலக்கிழார்களின் ஆதிக்கத்தின் கீழ் கடந்த சில நூற்றாண்டுகள் அவர்களது நிலை மிகவும் மோசமாக இருந்தது. இதனிலிருந்து மீட்க பல உழவர் இயக்கங்கள் உலகெங்கும் தோன்றின. உழுகின்ற உழவருக்கு இடைத்தரகர்கள் மூலம் சரியான விலை கிடைக்காதிருந்ததை தவிர்க்க தமிழக அரசு உழவர் சந்தை என்ற நேரடி சந்தை முறையினை அறிமுகப்படுத்தியது. தவிர வருமான வரி விலக்கு, உர மானியம், உழவர் காப்பீடு என்பன மூலம் அவர்களுக்கு பொருளியல் ஆதரவு அளிக்கப்படுகிறது
