Let c be the constant expense per month
and m be monthly expense per each member of family
For a family of 4 total expense = constant expense + number of family members * monthly expense per family member
So Total expense = c + 4*m = 10,400
For a family of 7 we have c + 7*m = 15,800
Solve these 2 eq. in 2 unknowns to find c and m
Subtract eq 1 from eq 2
3m = 5400
m = 1800
Substitute for m in eq. 1
c + 4*1800 = 10,400
c = 3200
