A part of monthly hostel charges is fixed and the remaining depends on the Number of days one has taken the food in the mess. When a student a takes food for 20 days, she has to pay Rs 1000 as hostel charges, where as a student B who takes food for 26 days, pays Rs 1180 as hostel charges. Find the fixed Charges and the cost of the food per day.

let the fixed charge be X and the cost of food per day be y
x+20y=1000
x+26y=1180
therefore 6y = 180
y=30

x+20(30)=1000
x+600=1000
x=400
therefore fixed charge equals to 400 and cost of food per day equals to 30

Hey Mate ,

Here is the answer ,
______________________________________________________________

Let the fixed charge be x and charge per day be y.

x + 20y = 1000            ------------(i)
x + 26y = 1180            ------------(ii)

(ii) - (i)

6y = 180
  y = 30

Put y=30 in (i)

x + 20 *30 = 1000
x + 600 = 1000
x = 400

Therefore fixed charge is 400 and charge per day is 30.
