To find: The sign of the charge on the particle.

Solution:

By applying Fleming's Left Hand rule

We can see that the direction of force is in the eastward direction as the direction of its velocity is in the southward and the magnetic field is acting downwards with the plane .

So the force on the particle is ,  

                  F = q( V\times B )

                 F =qvB sin90^\circ                               [Sin 90^\circ = 1]

                F = qvB

From the above equation we can see that q is positive.

So, charge on the particle is positive.
