Explanation:

Given that,

A particle is dropped from tower.Therefore its initial velocity is zero.

 =  > u = 0

Also given,it takes 2.4sec for the particle to reach ground.

To find final velocity of particle,we use the kinematic equation of motion for a freely falling body

v = u  + at

We know that u=0 and a=-g

 =  > v = 0 + ( - g)(t) \\  =  > v =  - 9.81 \times 2.4  \\ =  - 23.54ms {}^{ - 1}

Negative sign indicates that the velocity is in vertically downward direction
