A particle is projected horizontally with velocity 10 m/s from height 20m. Horizontal displacement ‘OB’ of particle before it lands on the n m.

we have to find the value of n.

see diagram,

horizontal velocity of projectile,

u_x=10m/s

vertical velocity of projectile,

u_y=0

using formula s = ut + 1/2 at² for vertical direction.

y=u_yt+\frac{1}{2}at^2

here, y = 20, a = g = 10 m/s²

⇒20 = 1/2 × 10 × t²

⇒t = 2 sec

in projection Motion, there is no horizontal acceleration acting on the particle.

so, a_x=0

hence, horizontal distance covered by projectile is given by,

x=u_xt

= 10 × 2

= 20 m ,

on comparing to n m , we get n = 20

Therefore the value of n is 20
