A particle moves on a straight line in such a way that it covers 1st half distance with speed 3m/s and next half distance in 2 equal time intervals with speeds 4.5m/s and 7.5m/s respectively.Find average speed of the particle.

let the total distance covered by particle = 2x

therefore time required to cover 1st half of total distance = distance/speed

= x/3

now time required to cover x/2 part of next half = x/2*4.5 = x/ 9

similarly for next half = x/2*7.5 = x/15

now average speed = total distance/total time

= 2x/x/3+x/9+x/15

= 3.91 m/s

zubairahm0786: answer is 4 m/s
priyanshutiwari738: i m sorry it was calculation error if u calculate it will give 3.91 that is in approx 4m/s
priyanshutiwari738: is it clear now?
zubairahm0786: yep
