Given : A particle moving with constant acceleration covers a distance of 30 m in 3rd second and it covers a distance of 50 m in 5th second.

To find : The acceleration of particle.

solution : let initial velocity is u and constant acceleration is a.

distance covered in nth second is given by,

S_n=u+\frac{1}{2}a(2n-1)

case 1 : S₃ = 30m , n = 3

so, 30 = u + 1/2 a(2 × 3 - 1)

⇒30 = u + 2.5a ............(1)

case 2 : S₅ = 50m , n = 5

so, 50 = u + 1/2 a (2 × 5 - 1)

⇒50 = u + 4.5 a ...........(2)

from equations (1) and (2) we get,

50 - 30 = [u + 4.5a ] - [u + 2.5a ]

⇒20 = 2a

⇒a = 10 m/s²

Therefore the acceleration of particle is 10 m/s²
