By law of momentum conservation.

μ=3mv

⇒v=u/3

Now, loss of kinetic energy =(Ki − Kf)

⇒ΔK=(1/2)μ^2 − (1/2)3m[u/3]^2

⇒ΔK=(1/2)μ^2−(1/6)μ^2

⇒ΔK=(1/3)μ^2
