Nature selects those species with variants which are capable of surviving in a particular environment. This is known as natural selection . For example there is a group of red beetles living in a area along with crows . Crows can see the beetles. After some time a variation arise as one of the beetle is green the crow cannot see the green beetle . So green beetle survives better than red beetle

The nature select a trait or phenotype that withstand the given agro climatic conditions and reject the other trait or phenotype that is unable to face these conditions. Natural selection works on the concept of "SURVIVAL OF THE FITTEST". This fitness is seen, in the increased reproductive potential to produce the next generation and after some time this fittest trait is fixed in the population of a given climatic conditions and the other trait with less ADAPTATION will eventually be extincted from that population. In this way, nature select a trait and reject the other. Hope it helps.
