Given Total Expenditure on milk = y rs

Fixed expenses = 1700 rs

Extra expenses = 42 rs/Litre

x litre milk he will buy so total extra expense = 42 *x = 42x rs

So we will get

Total Expenditure on milk = Fixed Expenses + Extra milk Expanses

y = 1700 + 42x

y = 42x + 1700

Standard form of linear equation is is AX+BY = C

y - 42x = 1700

Answer : Linear equation in standard form is y - 42x = 1700
