A custom (also called a tradition) is a common way of doing things. It is something that many people do, and have done for a long time. Usually, the people come from the same country, culture, or religion. Many customs are things that people do that are handed down from the past.

Customs and Traditions different or the same?

Generally both the words are considered synonyms to each other but literally they are not.

Custom means a belief which has been practiced for several years by an individual or group of members and thus passes on to generation to generation.

However, when such customs are followed religiously by forthcoming generations it becomes a Tradition.

An example of custom could be found in various cultures. Such as Catholics attend Church mass every Sunday which is followed by generation to generation. Thus a custom becomes a tradition with the passage of time.
