given side of the garden = 30m, width of the path inside the garden = 1m, cost of the planting of grass = Rs 40 per m2.

∴ side of the garden without path = 30m — 1m — 1m = 28m

∴area of square = Side2
∴area of square garden 
= (30m)2 = 900 m2

area of garden without path 
= (28m)2 = 784 m2

area of path = area of garden — area of garden without path = 900m2 —784m2 = 116 m2

∴cost of planting grass in the remaining portion of garden = Rate × Area
= Rs 40 × 784 

= Rs 31360 is the answer
