Solution :

let ABCD be the square of side 22 m and the shaded region represents 1 m wide path which is built along the border inside the garden.

We have,

PQ =(22 - 1 - 1) m =20 m , PS = (22 - 1 - 1)m = 20 m

Area of path

= Area of square ABCD - Area of square PQRS

= (22 x 22) m²- (20 x 20) m²

= (484 - 400)m²

= 84 m²
