Answer:

400 m²

Step-by-step explanation:

Find the area of the field:

Area = Length x Breadth

Area = 24 x 18

Area = 432 m²

Find the length and breadth of the field and the path:

Length = 24 + 4 + 4 = 32 m

Breadth 18 + 4 + 4 = 26 m

Find the area of the field and the path:

Area = Length x Breadth

Area = 32 x 26

Area = 832 m²

Find the area of the path:

Area of the path = Area of the field and path - Area of the field

Area of the path = 832 - 432 = 400 m²

Answer: 400 m²

Question

  1. A path of uniform width 4 m runs around the outside of a rectangular field 24 m by 18m. Find the area of the path.

Solution

According to the given information, the figure will be as shown alongside I. which the shaded portion is the area of the path.

Clearly :

Length of the field excluding path = 24 m

and, width of the field excluding path = 18 m

Area of the field excluding path = 24 m × 18m = 432

Now, length of the field including path = (24 + 2 × 4) m = 32m

and, width of the field including path = (18 + 2 × 4) m = 26 .

Area of the field including path = 32m × 26m = 832

Area of the path = 832 - 432 = 400
